GoPro HERO3 is here

The GoPro HERO cameras have been around for a few years now, providing stunning video from some of the most unique filming perspectives that you’ll ever see.  The small package and various mounting apparatus allow the user to attach the camera to nearly anything including helmet mounts, body mounts, suction mounts for flat surfaces, and just about anything else that you can wrap around, stick to, or strap on to.  The camera is even water proof for shooting in wet environments or as deep as 60m in really wet environments.  The GoPro HERO2 was launched in late 2011 and brought with it various improvements over the original GoPro including an 11mp sensor, better processor, better glass, new LCD user interface and a number of other cool features. Nik Software

I recently downloaded the Demo versions of a number of Nik Software photo editing plugins that work with Adobe Lightroom.  The various plugins are uniquely designed for specific types of edits such as applying preset or custom colour filters, black and white conversion, noise control, sharpening, selective colour and light control, as well as HDR processing.  The full suite of plugins can be found at where demo versions of each plugin can be downloaded.

The image on the left is the original photo with minor adjustments made in Lightroom.  The photo on the right is the edited image using Color Efex Pro 4, Sharpener Pro 3.0 and Dfine 2.0.  Clearly my final image looks completely over cooked, but I wanted to test out a number of the available adjustments and this was the result.  The detail that can be extracted from the photo is pretty amazing; note the shadows from the skater and the puck marks in the glass.

The plugins are definitely worth checking out!

How to light a Lamborghini Aventador

Let say you had $60,000 worth of lighting gear and just happened to have a $400,000 Lamborghini Aventador sitting around doing nothing, how would you light it to photograph?  Not sure?  Check out the video for some ideas.  Worth noting is the very inexpensive solution that is presented towards the end of the video, in case you didn’t have $60,000 of lighting equipment.  I’m still not sure where I would get the Aventador from….
